The GLMR Metric Century

WHY: A great ride to prepare you for Lotoja! A benefit ride for Hope, Healing and Happiness. The GLMR is a 62.5 mile ride to raise an awareness of mental illness and suicide prevention. In 2008 an avid cyclist, Gary Ludlow, was taken by mental illness. We ride in honor of him and to enjoy the great sport that he loved. Proceeds raised go to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Utah) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP Utah).

Utah’s best 100K metric century starts in Payson at the Park and Ride (900 N @ 143 W, Payson, UT 84651) and goes south through Santaquin into Mona and stops at the Mona City Park (rest stop #1). From the rest stop, it heads west then north around Mona Reservoir, through Goshen Canyon and comes out into the city of Goshen. It precedes northeast through Genola and then north through West Mountain. From West Mountain, it turns east into Benjamin and stops at Benjamin Park (rest stop #2). From the rest stop, it heads north then east through Lakeshore and north west through Palmyra. From Palmyra, it loops back south through Lakeshore and Benjamin and ends at the starting point in Payson. 900 N @ 143 W, Payson, UT 84651

Road Respect Hurricane Metric Century Bike Ride & Family Festival

Location: Hurricane, Utah

Description: “Road Respect, Hurricane” is the final day of an epic statewide, week-long education campaign for car & bicycle safety. “Road Respect, Rules to Live By for Cars and Bikes’ was created by the Utah Department of Transportation to educate bicyclists and motorists about how to ‘Share the Road’ and to foster a more open and courteous dialog. A group of 25 cyclists will begin this educational campaign in Logan and ride throughout the state teaching both drivers and cyclists the rules of the road so that everyone respects everyone’s space and everyone gets home safely. Their journey will culminate in Hurricane on June 18 with “Road Respect, Hurricane” a Metric Century and Family Festival.

The Metric Century starts at 7am at the Hurricane Community Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony for Washington County’s first officially designated bike route. The new route winds through Hurricane and around Sand Hollow Reservoir, returning back to Hurricane. The Metric Century riders will continue to Springdale for the ‘Road Respect, Springdale’ Festival where they will meet the original 25 Road Respect cyclists as they finish their statewide journey. All cyclists will continue back to Hurricane to celebrate the final leg of the Road Respect Campaign with the Family Festival

The Family Festival starts at 10am and is sponsored by Hurricane City. Activities include:
~ Free kid’s helmet giveaway courtesy of Cactus Huggers Cycling Club (first 100 kids who complete bike rodeo)
~ Kid’s bike rodeo with the Hurricane Police Department
~ Demonstrations and bike checks from Bicycles Unlimited and Red Rock Bicycles
~ Family Fun Bike Ride with Over the Edge Sports
Plus food, music & fun
The Family Festival is FREE and everyone, cyclists & motorists alike, are invited.

Place: Hurricane City Community Center & Fine Arts Building (formerly Hurricane Elementary School) 100 West 100 South, Hurricane, Utah

Directions: From I-15 take the Hurricane/Zion National Park Exit 16 to Highway 9. The Community Center is located in the middle of town on the south side of State Street (also Hwy 9). Access from 200 West or Main Street. Parking is available along neighborhood streets around the Community Center, please be considerate of homeowners and don’t block driveways.

Registration & Check In —Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and greatly appreciated. You can register for only $15.00 up to Tuesday, June 14.
Late Registration & Check-in will be available Friday, June 17 at Over the Edge Sports from 4-6pm (75 E. 100 S. Hurricane) and at 6am on Saturday, June 18 prior to start.
After the 14th, registration is $35.00 so please register early.

Metric Century Registration includes:

Route: Come ride the first official designed bike route in Washington County. This first 22 mile loop is on quiet neighborhood streets and around Sand Hollow Reservoir, site of the St. George Ironman swim competition, returning back to the original start for the first rest stop. Leaving through Hurricane, the route will travel along State Rt. 9 through LaVerkin with a climb up to Virgin, through Rockville and into Springdale for the second rest stop at the Springdale Road Respect Festival. In Springdale you’ll meet the core group of 25 cyclists who have spent the past week riding the state to promote car & bike safety and respect. Metric riders will escort the Road Respect riders back to Hurricane for the Road Respect Festival and finale of the week-long Road Respect campaign. The entire route offers spectacular views of Sand Hollow and Zion National Park.

This delightful day of cycling and outdoor fun with family and friends is based on the shores of San Francisco bay in scenic Coyote Point Park, and this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. Choose from a variety of routes to suit everyone from young children and first time riders to serious cyclists. Throughout the day, during and after the ride, family fun activities take place in the park, with a children’s playground, barbecuing, picnics, live music, and equally lively conversation. Proceeds benefit San Mateo County Parks Foundation and Bicycle Sunday—car-free biking on Canada Road.

Kids/Family Route: 1-3 miles on bike trail in Coyote Point Park begins at 12 noon
Short Route for beginner to intermediate cyclists: 20 miles begins at 8 am
Long Route for intermediate to experienced cyclists: 31 miles begins at 8 am
Metric Century for advanced cyclists: 63 miles (contains short-cut for 56-mile option) begins at 7 am

Registration Through June 30: Kids 11 and under are free. 12-16 years are $20. Adults 17 and over are $40.
Through August 3: Kids 11 and under are free. 12-16 years are $25. Adults 17 and over are $45. Day of Event: Kids 11 and under are free. 12-16 years are $25. Adults 17 and over are $50. Front Runner Century

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Description: Utah’s Newest Bicycle Century Ride. Looking for the perfect end to your bicycling season? Starting at the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub, you head north through the city until you reach the Legacy Parkway Trail. After reaching the first bicycle century ride rest stop at about 20 miles, you head west and travel through the back roads of Davis and Weber counties where the second bicycle ride rest stop at about 40 miles will get you fueled up and ready to finish off your bicycle century ride at the Ogden Intermodal Hub where a hot lunch and a seat on one of UTA’s FRONT RUNNER ® awaits.

For the 100 mile option you will be heading out onto Antelope Island.

Riding 4 a Reason

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Description: Toughest Century in Utah

Route: Where: The timed ride is an out and back that will begin in Salt Lake and travel to Coalville over Emigration and East Canyon.
Flight A: For those who are up for a challenge Flight A to the top of Big Mountain will be available. Length: 32 miles out and back. Approximate Elevation Gain: 3740 ft.
Flight B: For those who would like a similar experience to year’s past, Flight B to Henefer will be their best option. Length: 69.2 miles out and back. Approximate Elevation Gain: 5811 ft.
Flight C: For avid riders, Flight C to Coalville will provide them with bragging rights for completion of the “Toughest Century in Utah”. Length: 101.6 miles out and back. Approximate Elevation Gain: 7230 ft.

Epic 200

Location: Saratoga Springs, Utah

Description: The Epic 200 is a fully supported one day 200+ mile cycling adventure. Great ride for those that didn’t get into or want prepare for LOTOJA.

Route: Start the day out enjoying the early morning sunrise over Utah Lake and wonderful views of Utah Valley. The race then proceeds up the Nebo loop which provides a beautiful wooded scenic ride with a challenging climb and several false summits. After a quick decent down the Nebo loop the route moves past lavender fields and into picturesque Goshen Canyon. This is followed by a 2,000 foot climb up to Eureka, an old mining ghost town. The race then speeds up as it heads down rolling hills and ends by essentially following the Pony Express route to the start.

RAW

Location: Logan, Utah

Description: Ride Around the Wellsvilles, a 72 mile bike event through beautiful Sardine Canyon and finishing with lunch at Willow Park. Same day registrations are permitted but not encouraged.

Route: “The ride around the Wellsvilles is one of my most favorite rides in all of Utah,” says Nate Stowers. It has lots of beautiful scenery, good climbs, and lots of straight-aways with good road and line of sight. The ride begins at 7am to 8am from Willow Park in Logan, The first 12 miles are along the valley floor and the eastern gentle rolls along on the foothill of the majestic Wellsville Mountains. Drop off excess clothing at the first rest stop in Wellsville, we’ll return it to the finish line. At Wellsville the route begins a climb of 1200 feet to the summit of Sardine Canyon. After a descent through Sardine the view opens to the Wasatch front at Brigham City where the second rest station awaits. The next stretch is along the western foothills along a meandoring road toward Deweyville, the third rest station. After another climb of about 600 feet over the Valley View Highway a fantastic vista of Cache Valley presents itself and carries you on to the last stop, Mendon. From there a back track of 7 miles along the Old Mendon Road delivers you to the finish and a yummy lunch. (Buy a lunch for your friend for $6). This ride is one of the very favorite rides of local bike riders. You won’t want to miss it. The RAW cause is to providing much needed food and clean drinking water, both locally and across boarders. Registration can be done on-line. A map and elevations of the route are also available on our web site. Come join us on July 16th!

Heber Valley Century 2011

Location: Heber City, Utah

Description: Join us on Utah’s most beautiful bike ride through the scenic splendor of the Wasatch mountains. The dramatic autumn beauty of Heber Valley, picturesque Jordanelle, and Olympic venue Soldier Hollow will take your breath away. This spectacular adventure will challenge you and your friends. Help support Cancer Victims — $10 of every registration helps support Hess Cancer Foundation’s mission of offering aid to the families of juvenile victims of cancer and the expenses of internment. 100% of all additional donations go directly to the Hess Cancer Foundation.

Biathlon Option — Ten miles into the ride you have the rare opportunity to test your marksmanship at Olympic venue Soldier Hollow’s biathlon range. The professional staff will over see and coach you to test your skill with their Olympic quality air rifles.

Kids & Family Ride — Join in the fun and only ride 25 miles. This loop ride circles the Heber Valley with awesome views and scenic splendor. Your are invited to join in the fun of the Biathlon Option at Soldier Hollow as well as visit beautiful Wasatch State Park. Participants in this option will not receive sox or lunch.

Safety — All riders must be aware of and obey the traffic laws of the state of Utah. The roadways along the course of this event are rural roads but are not closed. Be prepared to share the road with vehicular traffic. Use proper hand signals for all turns and stops, for the safety of drivers and your fellow riders. All riders are required to wear a helmet, and to ride single file, except for passing. All riders must be off the roads by 4:30pm.

Equipment Drop Off — Each rider will be provided with a bag at registration, suitable for equipment & clothing drop off. The first three rest stops will have someone to help you mark your bag and see that it gets returned to the finish. B2B will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Waiver — All Riders will be required to sign a waiver during check in. No one may sign for another rider (except guardians).

Lodging — B2B has arranged with the local motels, B&B’s & Lodges for special rates for our riders. Please check our website for a listing of prices & amenities. When making your reservations you must mention B2B to receive the special rates. Please make your reservations as early as possible.

Bailey’s Finish Line Bar-B-Q Celebration — Are you starving at the end of a ride? Need a protein boost? Join us for Bailey’s Bar-B-Q. You have your choice! Bar-B-Q’d steak, Chicken or veggie entrée. In addition there will be salads, beans, corn on the cob, and all the trimmings, plus some decadent desserts for a fantastic, finger lickin way to relax and enjoy new and old friends.

Directions: I-80 to US 40 continue on to Heber City, Main St. to 100 So. turn right and go 10 blocks to Southfield Park. We’re where all the bikes are.

Registration & Check In — Early registration is encouraged, however registration will be accepted up to the morning of the event. Check in will be available Friday night at and Saturday beginning 6:30 am at South Field Park.

Pony Express Century

Location: Eagle Mountain, Utah

Description: Celebrate Eagle Mountain’s Pony Express Days with a bike ride. This supported century bike ride includes beautiful lake scenes, a historic ghost town, and riding along the historic Pony Express Route. The ride includes a healthy amount of climbing including a climb to Eureka where lunch will be provided.

Route: Starting in Eagle Mountain and visiting Saratoga Springs, Elberta, Eureka, and Vernon and then returning along the Pony Express route back to Eagle Mountain.

Description: The Tour de Brewtah provides cyclists with a fun, meaningful event, engaging them with Salt Lake’s craft breweries while supporting local non-profit organizations.

Route: Route will travel throughout the Salt Lake Valley visiting local breweries. This year we will not have a set route. Riders will choose their own adventure.
